Well, well, well,...New MExico may have a solution to this racial profiling trying to check for "illegal" immigrants. It has a good point and a bad point....
But a new policy (being held back by Richardson)...If someone is stopped for any reason, that person whill have a background check done on them to reveal origin of citizenship.... walah ! ...problem solved.....dosent matter who you are,,,,if they run a check on you, it looks at that !!!!!
....Suzana Martinez for NM Governor.....
(i.e. im anglo, this has nothing to do with race)

Sounds like Arizona to me, and I fully agree, just be sure when we find out they're illegal, we send them back!
In doing a background checks, put teeth in it by stating employers also do background checks before hiring illegals or they'll be held as lawbreakers too.:shoot:

I find this exactly as cogent and astute as your self-reinforcement - "walah !" **laugh**
What precise "policy" is Richardson "holding back", and, how??

I get the point, its a good one. Cops should do a citizenship background check on EVERYONE they stop, Anglos, Vietnamese, blacks, everyone. Then they can not be accused of racial profiling. Works for me!

I got the point, too, rover and didn't find it difficult to 'get'.
And I agree, it's a good way to stop the whiners from crying 'racial profiling' and 'racist' and pretty much everything else they seem to be objecting too. Fix part of the problem and stop the whining - it's a win/win....:smk3:
Pls define "background check" for me. I'm somewhat familiar with BI's and FFI's. I think you're referring to any record showing POB (place of birth).

That's what I thought it was referring too.
"If someone is stopped for any reason, that person whill have a background check done on them to reveal origin of citizenship."

I got the point too, what's wrong with the rest of the people?:shoot:
Keep this thought in mind, these groups who are protesting are well organized by well established and funded organizations who operate in the background.
We need to stay focused and on target with the real problem "illegal immigrants", people who entered our country as lawbreakers!:shoot:
I've forgotten if running an NCIC check on someone shows their POB. Probably does show both DOB & POB.
Problem is identity theft is very common now and there is a cottage industry that sells fake ID's and green cards to these people. Here in Roswell the can get an ID at DMV, a SS card and a NM drivers license. It may or may not be their real name & other info.
ICE probably has a data base that local police can access. Also Border Patrol.
Probably need an RPD policy on how this will be done. RPD takes them into temporary custody for violating a federal law while ICE comes to get them. Didn't we get alot of local flak when that was done before? I thought the COP backed off of that. If the council voted for it and the COP was told to do that I'm sure he would. Local hispnics would oppose that. It'd be a political hot potato.

"I've forgotten if running an NCIC check on someone shows their POB. Probably does show both DOB & POB."
I know when they do the instant NCIC checks for firearm purchases, name, DOB, POB, SS# are all required. (SS# isn't technically required but you won't walk out with your gun either) Yes identity theft is a problem but difficult to line up all 4 of those things. If they don't, it's flagged and investigated further. Fake ID's, stolen ID's are just more charges to be added and shows the depth they are willing to go to break the law.
"Local hispnics would oppose that. It'd be a political hot potato."
More will support it than will oppose. AZ couldn't get 70% approval without a lot of hispanic help! :) Besides, would we ignore other criminal activity if there was a segment of the population that opposed it? Yes there would be a small but noisy group of the aiding and abetting society...O.L.
The Mexican government refers to its citizens, there and abroad, as Mexicans. Mexico is country. Its citizens are Mexicans. They can be proud of their country and their heritage. Once they cross the border they become hispanics. If I was a Mexican citizen I'd be offended to be called something else.
The border problem is not solely Mexicans crossing illegally but also people from other countries finding easy access to the US through poorly protected borders. Once in the US they become mainly state problems at a huge cost. This at a time when most states are struggling to have a balanced budget. The criminal element creates costs and risks for American citizens including naturalized citizens.
