people who judge others before knowing anything about them,,,example,my son and his wife went to tinnies restraunt on valentines day,,had resvations in advance, was seated took 45 mins to recive thier tea,,another 45 to get thier food wich the desert was brought to them before the salad,,a couple on both sides of them dressed in nicer dress wear like suits and such ,,were served twice as fast as my kids,,my kids were in nice shirts and blue jeans,, as my son worked late and didnt have the time to gussy up,,now my daughtis alot like me id of complained right away,,but son didnt want to make a fuss and he left her a 25.00 tip for what i asked him?my son is 33 a susscesful bussness owner,,but i guess thier aperance to the waitress was some young kids with no money so ohh well. thats what i mean about judgeing.

In a situation like that, I would not have left a tip and maybe also would have explained to the waitress why I didn't leave a tip. Or at least only left like a couple dollars for a tip if I didn't feel like confronting the waitress. Of course, sometimes, the problem is in the kitchen and beyond the control of the waitress. If that was the case, the waitress still should have explained and apologized.
I have heard other people say they'll never go back to Tinnie, because of terrible service - I've never been there and probably never will go. Maybe they do judge people by their looks, I don't know. I think we're all guilty of that every now and then. I know I have been - I've worked on correcting that about myself. But ya know what - some people I see out and about REALLY ought not wear what they wear!!! :nerves:
I'm one of those people who think you should always look your best, if at all possible. (not suits and dresses, that's not my style) It's important to me personally to look my best. Some people don't think it's all that important. It sounds to me like your family was dressed just fine in nice shirts and jeans. :)

Yeah, that's another thing I've heard about that place - expensive and not at all worth it. I'll take people's word for it and not go there. :no3:

A $25 tip for poor service!!!??? You son is more generous and tolerant than I am.
Maybe we need an index of forums so we post to the right ones. Can't make it too complicated tho for dummies like me.

I used to be somewhat of a "regular" back when the Yates had the place and before.
Went to some very neat "concerts" on Sunday afternoons there, too. Great music, food, and frosty beverages ... what a way to spend a Sunday afternoon!

"How you are?" and "Did you get yer fill?" were two of Elton's most often repeated statements ... he was a character! I was somewhat of a regular there at Hazel's, as well ... I'd wager you've cooked or served me food on more than one occasion! The pies at Hazel's were incredible, too...
Elton "made" me try the gator once - and I was very impressed - enough to where I ordered it sometimes, but the gumbo was hard to pass up, so I ate gallons of that over the years.
He had a residence in Ruidoso at one time - it was up in the Sudderth "loop" near the old Nuthin' Fancy" if I remember correctly.
I try to see the Roe boys whenever I come to Roswell - I'll keep you posted when the next time will be, and if I get lucky enough for a pot of your gumbo, I will keep it a secret!

Wow, my husband has worked for Yates Petroleum (he's now at Agave Energy, another Yates company) for 20 plus years and I sure don't remember them owning Tinnie's. I guess it could be that I knew it and forgot.........I'll ask my husband if he knew that. And you're right, honeybeezzs, the Yates' are good to their employees!

Cynthia Yates and her husband (I can't remember his name - George, I think?) owned Tinnie in the Hondo Valley - and still own "Tinnie Mercantile" on West Second (unless they sold it in the past few years).

My wife used to get mad at me when we had sorry service. I would take a penny, put it in a glass of water and turn it upside down on the table. It alone said volums about the service.
I must have put on 50 pounds at Hazle's. No matter how you felt when you went in there they made you feel at home.
I did not eat much Gummbo but when Elton came back from LA. he would fry me up a " gator steak" Steaks made from Gator Tail. Mighty Fine eating. Their Chicken Fried Steaks were hugh. But the main reason I kept going Back was the atmosphere, (sp). I liked Tennies in Hondo Vally more than I did here in town, mostly because of the Atmosphere.
There used to be a place in the maul, (The spelling is not right) Schwnsons. It was across the hall from the theator.
The folks there were good folks too. And the price's was right to.
A lot of folks think I am crazy for what I am about to say but I think it is true.
I have paid $20 for a steak that was not expencive and I have paid $5 for a steak that was more than it was worth, making it expencive and both was because of the atmusphere.
The people running the place or the waitresses are what makes you come back more than the food.
Just a thought
