We went to Cattle Baron tonight with friends and, boy, have their prices gone up! We hadn't been there in awhile, so I don't know exactly when this happened. The food was really good (I've never had bad food there), but I was sure surprised at the prices. One item on the menu that floored me was the chicken strips............$15.00. That seemed outrageous to me!! Maybe I'm just old, crochety and stingy, but we won't be going there very often. :no3:
Did you check out the steak prices? I understand that they deliver them to your table in an armored car.
I wonder where the prices are now at Tinnie's Silver Dollar?
Any body remember when R. O. Anderson owned The Silver Dollar and they had those one pound New York Steaks about 2 inches Thick? ($15.00)

No, I didn't check out the steak prices - it would be embarrassing to have the armored car come to the table. I never order steak when we go out, because none of them compare to the steaks my husband cooks on his grill over mesquite wood. I had the Captain's Platter for $17 and some change. Cattle Baron prices have always been a bit high, but nothing like they are now............it's ridiculous!

Minimum wage increased, fuel/transportation prices increased, the price of corn has gone up (cattle/chicken feed) because we seem to want to burn most of it as fuel ...
The list goes on...
The survivors will overcome the increases by offering even better service and food quality to offset the price increases.
The ones who are just doing business as usual will go away eventually.
There also comes a time in a eating place when you are renting space. This means that table that you are setting at has to gross so many dollars per hour for that business to break even. Thats when it gets to where the food cost is not the big item but the labor, rent, utilties, etc. is what is setting the price for your chicken strips.

I seriously doubt that's the case at the restaurant in question ...
Fish, you don't believe that they have turn those tables or have big prices for their meals to make money? For instance chicken strips at $15.00 plus.

I think they have down to a science - or that salad bar would have gone away a long time ago ...
Sure, tables need to be turned - but most of their restaurants are also half again as big as most other restaurants of a similar caliber, so the volume comes in more readily even if the tables aren't turning as fast as they need to in a place like, say - Pasta Cafe or Pepper's.

Well I made the mistake of eating at Cattle Barron Restaurant tonight, we have company from Albq and it was there Ideal. My brother in-laws steak was so small that he thought he should have ordered 2 dinners, thank god for salad bars, the real problem was my dinner.
I ordered the Captains Platter, the first time they brought my dinner out they forgot the two little shrimp, so they took it back, about 12 minutes latter I get my food back, I took a small bite from everything to see if it was eatable when I took a small bite of the crab cake it was ICE Cold. The waiter walked by just about that time and I told him about it, he took my plate for the 2nd time and said he would get the manger, after another 13minuts a lady brings my dinner for the 3rd time, and said sorry it took so long but that they had just made me a whole new dinner, I told her someone was full of crap because each piece of seafood had a small bite taken from each piece, again I was told they would get the manager.
On the 3rd try the food was greasy and not worth eating, the manager finally made his way over to the table and offered his apologies and asked if I wanted a free desert, I informed him I usually had dinner before I eat desert. I tried another small piece of the fish and gave up and sent it to the place it should have gone after the 2nd time, straight to the garbage disposal. I will be calling the corporate office Monday morning:mad:. Here it is10:00pm and I still have not eaten dinner, But have been eating some good beef jerk.

Did you know that the crab cakes are thrown into the fryers, then put in the microwave? If the crab cake is cold, the cook has forgotten to put it in the microwave after the fryer.

We ate at Cattle Baron again last week with friends and once again we all had a very nice time there. The food and the service were both great. The prices are way too high, in my opinion, but otherwise I like the place and always enjoy eating there.
Sorry you had such a bad experience there, j. I just don't understand it, cuz I've always had such a good time there.
