Rush Limbaugh, Newt Gingrich and others spoke at the Conservative Political Action Conference on Saturday. They urged other conservatives not to give up and to find the right candidate for the next presidential election.

I'm almost convinced that "WE" do not choose the candidates, Daisy.
I think they're handpicked in a smokey backroom somewhere.
McCain was all but finished during the primaries - he had cut most of his staff, and was just about to pull out of the race - and yet, he "became" the GOP nominee.
Hillary was so far ahead of her opponents it seemed to be just a matter of time for her - and then POOF! Obama mysteriously "pulled ahead" and became the DNC nominee ...
Call me a conspiracy nut, but I am not comfortable with the way ANY of that shook out this year.
Someone the other day said "that new car sales were down because no one can borrow money to finance a new car."
My question? Who in there right mind would borrow money to buy a new car with all the problems that are going on now.
If I had to have a car now, I would be looking for one that I could afford without having to make payments.
If I had to finance, it would be a used car which does not help Detriot.

Who in there right mind would borrow money to buy a new car with all the problems that are going on now.
The answer is: those who want an excellent deal and know that they can pay it off soon. We bought a used truck in November and borrowed the money from our hometown credit union. I've been a member there since I was 5 years old and they are and have always been wonderful! Every single thing we have had financed in our 35 years of marriage (except the house, of course) has gone through them. That's the Roswell Community Federal Credit Union - I can remember years ago when we needed to borrow money for something and didn't have collateral, Nell Twibell had us list everything in our house until we had enough items of worth for the collateral. I'm pretty sure they wouldn't be able to do that now, but she knew we would pay off the loan and did everything she could think of to help out the struggling young family.
What does all this have to do with the thread topic? Well, we true conservatives tend to live our lives pretty carefully, which means never overextending ourselves. (for instance, we have never and never will have a brand new vehicle and we're okay with that) When times get rough, we are still okay and we won't give up. Besides, if you need or want another vehicle, (and can afford it) the deals now are simply to good to pass up.......
Oops, I just realized, saw, that you said "who in their right minds would buy a NEW car"............we bought used, but we always have. I would imagine the same thing applies - it would be those who want a good deal and know they can pay it off soon.

Interesting definition of a true conservative, Daisy.
Let's compare two candidates for political office.
Candidate A has over $100,000 in credit card debt.
Candidate B has no credit card debt.
Guess which one won the election and which one was running on the conservative platform?

Heh, heh - actually, I didn't say that was the definition of a conservative. Also many of those political figures who call themselves 'conservatives', really aren't - that has been proven quite often lately. There's a big difference in calling yourself a conservative and actually being a true conservative. Which is why the Republican party is losing a lot of it's supporters right now.

Michael Savage's Poll Calling for Janet Napolitano's Resignation is Lagging! We CAN Change that! Let's Show the country OUR STRENGTH!
The poll is lagging at the moment. When it first began, 89% were in favor of demanding her resignation. It is now 47% FOR her resignation and 53% against it. Let's forward this to EVERYBODY and show our strength! Pass it on to other patriotic organizations as well, OK?

THIS IS SO INCREDIBLY WELL PUT AND I CAN HARDLY BELIEVE IT'S BY A YOUNG PERSON, A STUDENT!!! WHATEVER HE RUNS FOR, I'LL VOTE FOR HIM.
OUTSTANDING!
Dear American liberals, leftists, social progressives, socialists, Marxists, Obama supporters, et al:
We have stuck together since the late 1950's, but the whole of this latest election process has made me realize that I want a divorce. I know we tolerated each other for many years for the sake of future generations, but sadly, this relationship has run its course. Our two ideological sides of America cannot and will not ever agree on what is right so let's just end it on friendly terms. We can smile and chalk it up to irreconcilable differences and go our own way.
Here is a model separation agreement:
Our two groups can equitably divide up the country by landmass each taking a portion. That will be the difficult part, but I am sure our two sides can come to a friendly agreement. After that, it should be relatively easy! Our respective representatives can effortlessly divide other assets since both sides have such distinct and disparate tastes.
We don't like redistributive taxes so you can keep them. You are welcome to the liberal judges and the ACLU, and abortion clinics. Since you hate guns and war, we'll take our firearms, the cops, the NRA and the military. You can keep Oprah, Michael Moore and Rosie O'Donnell...
We'll keep the capitalism, greedy corporations, pharmaceutical companies, Wal-Mart and Wall Street. You can have your belov ed homeless, homeboys, hippies and illegal aliens. We'll keep the hot Alaskan hockey moms and rednecks. We'll keep the Bibles and give you NBC and Hollywood .
You can make nice with Iran and Palestine and we'll retain the right to invade and hammer places that threaten us. You can have the peaceniks, and war protesters. When our allies or our way of life are under assault, we'll help provide them security.
We'll keep our Judeo-Christian values. You are welcome to Islam, Scientology, Humanism and Shirley McClain. You can also have the U.N., but we will no longer be paying the bill.
We'll keep the SUVs, pickup trucks and oversized luxury cars. You can take every Subaru station wagon you can find.
You can give everyone healthcare if you can find any practicing doctors. We'll continue to believe healthcare is a luxury and not a right. We'll keep The Battle Hymn of the Republic and the National Anthem. I'm sure you'll be happy to substitute I'd Like to Teach the World to Sing, Kum Ba Ya or We Are the World.
We'll practice trickle down economics and you c an give trickle up poverty your best shot. Since it often so offends you, we'll keep our history, our name and our flag.
Would you agree to this? If so, please pass it along to other like minded liberal and conservative patriots and if you do not agree, just hit delete. In the spirit of friendly parting, I'll bet you ANWAR which one of us will need whose help in 15 years.
Sincerely,
John J. Wall
Law Student and an American
P.S. Also, please take Barbara Streisand and Jane Fonda with you.

But if you keep NOT quitting, even though you're NOT winning, you will eventually win, dontcha think?? Even if ya don't, at least you gave it your best shot - that's not idiotic, that's doing the best you possibly can and giving it your all. Which is what George Washington, the Wright bothers, Eli Whitney, Henry Ford and many others did. ;)

Oh, but they did win. That's why you remember their names. :naughty:
History is probably full of ten times as many never-winners who never gave up either, and those are the idiots referenced above.

hmmmmmmmmmm let's see, was it the guy who has all those ties to Chicago politics? you know, the one with the wife who got a $200,000 plus pay raise when he became a senator? The one who made a shady land deal with Rezko? Guess that's why there were no credit card bills, everything in cash, ya think? Is that the one? Just askin' :meh:

Oh, but they did win.
Exactly my point........
History is probably full of ten times as many never-winners who never gave up either...
That's okay, they had the conviction to keep at it, anyway - in my book, that doesn't make them idiots.
But, that's just me..............

That's okay, they had the conviction to keep at it, anyway - in my book, that doesn't make them idiots.
I think if you look at them more carefully, they were quitters. And it was a good thing that they recognized which tasks were wastes of their time.
Example: George Washington surrendered at Fort Necessity in 1754. In 1797, he quit the presidency, refusing to run for a third term and setting an important precedent.
The Wright bothers [sic] also were quitters. Orville dropped out of high school in 1889. Wilbur neither graduated high school nor made it to Yale like he planned.
Henry Ford quit his job at Edison in 1899 to start the Detroit Automobile Company (later called Ford Motor Co.). What a boneheaded move that was!
The point here? Quitters do win, and winners do quit, sometimes. (looking at the title of this thread)

Quitters do win, and winners do quit, sometimes.
Uh huh.............so, we're in agreement. :smk3:
If those who never win and never quit are idiots, what are those who never win and always quit?
Would this make the guys at the Alamo idiots?
What is your definition of a winner?
What about the folks that got a Congressional Medal Of Honor posthumously, are they idiots or winners?
My bet is most all of them had a choice of just quitting.
I am a life long Democrat and a conservative, does that make me a winner or an idiot?:ohwell:

I don't think anyone who gives it their all is an idiot, whether they win or not.

A conservative Democrat? Can there be such a creature??

Harold Runnels was a conservative Democrat. But they're a dying breed, kind of like conservative Republicans.
Tim Jennings is as close to a conservative Democrat as you'll see in elected office from those parts these days...
